Review on πŸ”’ MaxTool 60-Piece Ground Numbers - JBS02H10R060 by Josh Parson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

I was impressed by the color - buy with confidence

EDIT: Two weeks later the price of this set has increased by an incredible 39%. My rating and satisfaction with these bits stands, but it's not such a good deal anymore, so compare your needs to a set that costs a little more but can be made from better quality steel. I'm no machinist, but I've become a bit of a drill snob, being very willing to pay higher prices for quality American drills because they're almost always much better in steel quality and finish. I purchased this Maxtool Large Fluctuation Wire Measurement Nozzle Set but the reviews seem legit and the customer photos show above average quality and look better than what the product photos show. I have to say that I am very impressed and this offer is worth the money. They are not perfect and not the strongest of high speed steel but they are quality steel, overall great and I have no regrets about this purchase at all. If Maxtool offered them in M7 or M35 steel I would buy them. replaced it with a traditional index as it's more compact and I'm used to that style). I carefully measured each with a Starrett 120A caliper, checked the tips and grinds, and tested them on the table. First of all, each of them is correct and very well polished - not a single burr is visible, and the splits are correctly done. The inside of the flutes have a slight sanding texture (not necessarily bad), but the edges and edges are smooth and sharp. I haven't checked the point angles but they all seem correct to me, even the smallest drill bits in the range. The bits cut excellently at different feed rates and some of them have been mishandled with high pressure without lubrication. One had an annoying tangential hole/rim that caused it to wander and dangle - to be expected and the hole was bad of course, but the bit performed great, came out unscathed. The finish on these bit pieces compares favorably to what I have , not particularly strong I'm familiar with US bits but it's not bad and for anything other than aluminum or stainless steel it doesn't really matter if you're not in production anyway. They scratched a bit and adhered securely to the aluminum as expected. After casting, all the bits I tested rotated correctly and started drilling into surfaces. Drill output was very low (no support). If I had to settle for one thing - I don't want it and exactly zero has meaning would be that the cut end (bottom) of the bit is sometimes a bit rough or the bevels are wavy, but to be honest I've seen that on American bits from time to time as well. Now the most important thing: the size. I give it one star because two bits (16 and 35) were pretty small - 0.1745 and 0.108 respectively. Almost all other bits are accurate, although some were 0.0005-0.001 too small (which would make no difference to most of us and/or be nullified by the beating and vibration of the instrument itself). These two beats are the oddballs in the set and I really wonder how that can happen given what I know about how beats are made. I have no regrets anyway and I think I wholeheartedly recommend these bits for most people and most uses - a really good deal and light years ahead of any other cheaper wire bits I've seen on the market and definitely no worse or better . than some more expensive imported kits. 135 degrees on top of that, I don't think you can go wrong with this set. Nice surprise for me.

Pros
  • Precise, fully ground edges and flutes ensure fast drilling, smooth chip movement and exceptional accuracy
Cons
  • Doubtful
