Review on Metro Exodus for PlayStation 4 by Mateusz Gniazdowski ᠌

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The quality is at zero, very sorry for the money spent.

I am disappointed. I really liked the Metro 2033 book, and 2035 is simply beyond competition. The beginning of the game is impressive, inspiring. Here it is - an adventure in a post-apocalyptic world. New people, situations, weapons and combat missions, search for a new home. But in the end, it all comes down to crawling on half-bent, unnecessary and, as it turns out, pointless, saving ammunition and finding spare parts for weapons. There is often no understanding of what the main character should do, what part of the game has already been completed. To be honest, I did not expect such a close, albeit bright, tearful ending. In general, the game is recognizable, worked out with soul. But, too short, sometimes empty and meaningless, not giving freedom of action and choice. . I'm lowering my rating from 3 stars to 1. After the main passage, I went to ng+. This is a nightmare guys. It looks like I won't be enough for the second playthrough. I walked around the game, listened to the "green" cassettes of the authors. I don't understand what they are proud of. The game lacks logic and at least a drop of realism. Bottom line: this squalor is not the Metro. The world is not thought out, the dialogues are drawn out due to the fact that Artem is dumb, there is no interaction with the world and NPCs - everything is scripted. Sorry, for the whole game to come only to whether you killed an unnecessary slave there in a dark corner and died or survived from this - this is not serious. By filters, cartridges, radiation, ballistics, stealth mode and bulletproof enemies, you can see how the authors "tried". Enemies run around without masks, and you run out of filters, or a line along or across the human body from 5 steps does not lead to a terrible death, the enemies either do not see point-blank, they are stupid, then they see at night (!) From a distance of 200 meters. The potential of the game is huge, but the output is such a fail. It reminded me of DA Inquisition where it only got worse with each game, and with the release of the 3rd open-world game, it finally fell down. The trailer to the music of Murphy or Artyom's nightmare turned out to be better than the game itself. And yet, I don’t even know how to explain that all the things in the game, where the war began in 2022, look deeply Soviet. Is this Russophobia like Glukhovsky's?

Pros
  • +Weapon customization +Good DLC +Spirit of Adventure + The very direction of the plot - leaving the metro to the world - is a strong move. The story itself, while both drawn out and crumpled in the middle of the game and generally short, is impressive on a first playthrough. + An attempt to comprehend and imagine what the world can turn into after a nuclear war is interesting in itself, although for some reason it has been reduced to primitives. + Locations Hong Kong and Hong Kong (first and last) are very good.
Cons
  • Unfortunately, there are very significant drawbacks: - system of karma. Guys, this is a shooter first and foremost. Weapons - class, backpack system, cleaning, only 2 types of resources, everything is very simple, visual, spectacular and effective, BUT! Using all this at 100% will not work a priori. Look - 3/4 of the game time will be occupied by 3 large locations - Volga, Caspian and Taiga. You can not kill the bandits, because. often they are mixed with other NPCs - they will remove karma. An example is the rescue of Gul at the lighthouse. At the very top, it’s worth it to the commando to “click” everyone, the screen immediately turns gray - a minus to karma. Okay, to hell with this omission that you can’t shoot in a shooter, because there is no visualization and a clear understanding of how this karma works and how the player should follow it. -a huge number of predictable and stupid scripts - bridges are always broken when necessary, mutants jump out at the same time and in the same places + Artyom is silent and there is no variability or the slightest opportunity to influence the passage, the world around. This discourages the desire to play the game one more time. - stealth system. Everything is as usual here - mutants do not hear, people do not see, laughter and nothing more. A very underdeveloped game mode. Fat minus. -very short storyline with lots of unnecessary wandering around the open world and silly inconsistencies. -Unfortunately, the game couldn't escape the feeling of emptiness as soon as the open world appeared. Kilometers of absolutely unnecessary rubbish, running into which, you lose that feeling of lamp-like, eerie atmosphere of the games of the trilogy. The action level set at the beginning appears only at the end and sometimes it starts to seem that this is not Metro. The inconsistencies in the plot are confusing. As well as absolutely stupid actions of characters and monsters. - unreality with radiation. An empty, frozen, radiation-polluted city. how can you even survive there? -blank unrevealed characters. Whom to worry about in the game? - the wasted potential of the age rating. This world is supposed to be a nasty place, but this feeling, coupled with realistic suspense, is simply NOT.
