I see negative reviews about dual layer discs all the time and most people don't realize that there is a drastic brand split. NOT so much on disc stripes, but on a combination of disc brands and burner brands. I've been using these drives with my LG and Plextor drives for years with no problems. Other high-end brand drives have failed. Before I had these two drives I had others and some brands worked well (including this one) and some didn't. You really won't know until you try them. However, you also need to make sure you have the latest optical drive driver and a computer that can handle large amounts of data. Also, when writing to dual-layer discs, you must be VERY CAREFUL not to overload the data bus with other computer operations. Opening video files and other high-demand operations can also cause a good combination to fail. I suggest you get a pack (maybe a 3 disc pack), use a good burning program, and don't open anything else while burning (don't check email, don't download files, etc.) until disk operation is complete If you're having trouble, it means you don't have the right combination, try a different brand of disc (easier to replace than an optical drive). I can record video with these discs while burning discs have burned several hundred of these discs and have ordered more.
