I only saw deep tissue massagers on TV until I bought this one so can't compare them to each other. What I can tell you is the presence of one or the lack of one, and it just doesn't compare. My shoulders are always tight from stress, bad posture or whatever. We've collected all types of shiatsu equipment in one box, from the ones you throw on your shoulders to the ones you lie on, and they all just press and pinch tissue rather than massage it. This device comes closest to feeling a good tissue manipulation massage. In comparison, I typically use the shiatsu device for about 30-45 minutes or until my skin feels irritated. My wife used this massager on me for about 10 minutes, most of the time on the lowest setting with the softest head (mushroom type) and I feel like I'm getting as much benefit as from the shiatsu. Of course, it's worth noting that the key difference is that I can do shiatsu myself, while doing back and shoulders was definitely a team sport. However, after I untied my knots, my wife briefly lifted her styrofoam ball head onto her feet, and she loved it too. The foam was thick enough not to hit the brittle bones on her feet, but she said it "bounced" off them enough to make her squirm the grip/die every time she hit one of them to change position. On the tech side, it's easy to use (although at first my wife thought it wasn't charging since the power button and power button are in different places on the device). The charging time seems minimal and the time you can use is enough for several massages between charges. We only tried 2 heads because the plastic heads look very uncomfortable; The massage is supposed to be uncomfortable though, so maybe I'll play around with that later. will be worth gold!
