A good caulking gun all round, but the switchable pressure relief on the 12:1 rotary barrel gun really fascinated me. It works quite well, but it has its limitations. When engaged, it pulls the bar back a little when you release the trigger, but not back far enough to relieve excess pressure from a full pull. If you advance the stock more than 1/4 inch at a time, the trigger will not be able to push the stock back far enough to fully relieve the pressure. Also, the spring that holds the stop plate in alignment is not strong enough and once the spring begins to compress it moves the plate out of alignment and the pressure relief does not work reliably. A stiffer spring would fix that. It relieves some stress when laying down the bead, giving you more time to loosen the stop plate before serious dripping occurs. It doesn't completely stop flow like a low-ratio hex gun without a stop plate, but these guns have so many other limitations that it's not worth releasing the pressure. In summary, I have used several different rotary guns to seal kegs that claim to have a pressure release mechanism. This one works way better than any other design and I think it's the best pressure relief mechanism you'll find on a 12:1 revolving barrel shotgun. Considering this shotgun is under $30, cheaper than some of the Offerings from Newborn and Albion , which lacks any kind of pressure relief I think it's fair to say that this is an exceptionally versatile and quality 10oz pistol. I would recommend it for any application other than viscous adhesives and epoxies with mixing nozzles. For them I would recommend an 18:1 draw ratio gun with no pressure relief, but for any type of acrylic latex, elastomer, silicone or urethane material this gun is second to none.
