Impressive idea, nice product presentation but it just didn't work

I had high hopes for this innovative looking product. I watched some cool videos including one in a big store that showed a clear plastic toilet flange with all the wax "injected" into it. Wow what a print! And then I tried that. I've installed about 20 toilets in my time, and they all used old-fashioned wax seals. Many times to get enough experience. And I've had great results with each of them. I'm also pretty good at laying tiles on floors, but my bathroom project had it done by a professional. I did the rest of the bathroom work and instructed the tiler to install the tiles and then place the underside of the toilet flange onto the TOP of the finished tiled floor - as ALL plumbers instruct (see Terry Love's excellent plumbers website). This keeps my toilet flange (1/2" thick flange) 1/2" off the floor. It works great with traditional wax rings. But not with this Danco product. According to the instructions, this gasket is designed for a very wide range of heights, both with flanges BELOW the finished floor, flanges ALSO with the floor and in my case with a flange ABOVE the floor (*correct* as I mentioned). So I assembled everything according to the instructions and left the blue rubber extension ring (for the underfloor flanges). I put the bolts into the flange, put the whole assembly on the bolts and moved them down, and by that moment there was already a mismatch. There are 4 holes on the gray ring that is flush with the toilet flange. The two holes are noticeably smaller, and the material-like black rubber pad makes their holes smaller. So do I use smaller holes? I looked very carefully at the instructions and there were words on the gray ring in their graphic and of course there were words on the gray ring of the product. But after that the big holes would line up over the studs. I decided to trust my instincts and line up the smaller holes in the gray ring with the screws and slide the whole thing over the screws so it sits flat on the toilet flange. So far, so good. I practiced a few times and then found an assistant to lead me to the bolts. The bolts lined up with the holes in the bottom of the toilet as I slowly lowered it down. Something went wrong here. I sank down and, still high enough off the ground, felt the entire Danco product begin to resist. I tried very slowly to rotate the toilet minimally to screw it into the female rubber boot but it stayed there, stubbornly at least 1/2 inch off the floor. I removed the toilet (they say it can be removed and "dropped" " (There is a typo in their instructions where it should say "graft"). When I looked at the instructions on the bare bones, it was it's not clear, but it seemed to say that I could remove the "black" " insert. Of course, that's not, could there be a black rubber sleeve coming out of the gray ring? No, inside this rubber sleeve is a black plastic insert , i.e apparently an insert to be removed, so the whole thing can shrink a bit more to get closer to the bottom I wish there was some sort of collapsible drawing in the instructions showing all the parts to clear up the confusion Anyway, I pulled out the black insert and set it aside, that's when I noticed the injected wax comes out unevenly instead of squirting in toilet neck flange like all i Her crazy videos show that part of it REALLY worked, but the other half ruptured the back of the gray ring. I was ready for a second attempt at reinstalling the toilet. All I had to do was insert the opening of the bottom of the toilet into the rubber sleeve and all would be fine because my toilet was slowly sinking to the bottom. The second try just didn't work. Now I was upset. Just to give you an idea of how far off the floor the product was, if I pivot the back end of the toilet until it touches the tile floor, the front end is almost 1 inch off the floor - so still about 1/2 inch barely touches the tile floor. Maybe it's my standard American toilet from 2010? I do not think so. The "chute" emerging from below appears to be of normal depth. The only thing SHOULD be "perfect seal", which turned out to be not very perfect. My high hopes were not justified. What about the fuzzy graphics that don't specify exactly which holes in the gray ring to use, and the text on the gray ring that indicates the use of large holes (what's the difference if you use them instead?), for Absence of a disassembled product, word c misspelling. All of this leads to the fact that the product is still trying to gain a foothold. Maybe they can make a version for 1/2" deep flanges that actually fits and sits flush with the floor? If so then I can try again. My gender is ANY but not standard. the flange should be. Tomorrow i will try again but this time with an old fashioned wax product now the question is what should i do with my purchase of a product that clearly does not work as promised other than give a bad review i just let it wrap up and make a mess send back?

Pros
  • Slim design
Cons
  • Long delivery time
