Great addition to the Sanyo Xacti range

This is the third Sanyo Xacti camera that I have owned and I have to say I still believe strongly in the brand. Here's what I like: - Small form factor. This camera allows you to take it anywhere and, most importantly, use it discreetly. I keep getting positive feedback about the camera and people quickly see the great advantage of not having to lug around a large MiniDV camera anymore. This camera fits in your pocket. Using SDHC cards. SDHC cards are cheap these days (they are getting cheaper) and reliable. I love the fact that I can quickly upload videos and images to my computer for editing DVDs etc. Also, I can easily upload them to YouTube if I want. With my old setup, you had to connect FireWire to the MiniDV, press play and wait for the transfer to complete, which took a long time (actual video playback time) - high resolution. Clarity is very good for a camera with such a small form factor. Admit it's not a $1,000+ HD camera so you can't really compare it to these. More Videos. As I mentioned above, this is my third Xacti camera. In the last four years I've moved from the C40 to the CG6 and now the HD700. My video library has grown significantly as it has become much easier to use Xacti compared to regular MiniDV.-Instant On. With this camera, you can turn on the power in about 1.5 seconds. That means you write so fast. What needs improvement: - Low light shooting. Pretty much all Xacti have trouble shooting in low light (even the HD1000 to some extent). I shot indoors and the footage suits me. The camera has several controls that you can use to set the correct ISO and white balance. Does the camera capture HD footage of the Discovery Channel? No, and I don't expect that at this price either. - battery. You get just over an hour of uninterrupted camera use. It would be nice if there was an optional battery with a larger capacity. The best lens cap Bright flash for photos. Please note that this camera is a digital video camera first and a photo camera second. The ability to charge the camera directly from the USB cable. So I am satisfied with the purchase. I hope people reading this will understand that this review was written by someone very familiar with the Xacti line. This brand has some limitations (as mentioned above) but they are outweighed by the fact that the device is so portable. I took footage of my kids growing up that I couldn't (easily) capture with the old MiniDV. When my kids grow up I will be able to give them tons of high quality videos. Without this camera I probably wouldn't have been able to pull this off as easily or I wouldn't have enough clips to give. So my only advice is if you buy an Xacti model, read the manual and learn how to use it.

Pros
  • Consistent test results
Cons
  • Requires power outlet
