I was very happy when I got this drive direct from Revain as I've heard a lot of good things about this Crucial SSD. Before that I only used Samsung SSDs and mostly had good experiences with them. My first suspicion that something was wrong was that the SSD wasn't packaged in a barcode-sealed box like Samsung SSDs, but in a plain brown envelope. with "Crucial" lettering on the outside. When I opened the package I found a bent and twisted plastic container with a push to close. Inside was a Crucial BX500 SSD, unsealed or shrink-wrapped. I watched a YouTube video of the BX500 unboxing and it shows a nice SEALED blue and black box contrasting with that ugly brown envelope. So something is clearly wrong here. When I tried to insert the SSD into my test SATA enclosure, it didn't fit. When I examined the SSD connector, I saw that two of the pin tabs were bent and one of the guide slots was broken. After correcting the results, I successfully inserted the SSD, connected it to the computer, formatted it to NTFS and checked SMART with CrystalDiskInfo. Although most of the SMART parameters have been reset, imagine my shock when I saw the following parameters: 0xCA Percent Used: 64% !0xF6 Total Host Sector Entries: 24756CD0xF7 Number of host program pages: 123AB6CrystalDiskInfo reported total host writes = 18 GB (Holy # %!*@ ! ) So I got a used drive with a bent connector and most of its lifespan is gone. I don't know how Crucial thinks they can get away with selling a disc that's so obviously used. For me it's Samsung again.
