Review on 📀 Toshiba SD-4990 DVD Player with Progressive Scan and Upconverting Features by Dan Ball

Have this to update Philips DVP642 for new HDTV. I really want to stay with Philips. However, their DVP5960 doesn't have an optical audio output (there's only coaxial) - I can't understand why that option was removed. So I went to BestBuy and bought a Toshiba. It has everything I wanted, HDMI and optical outputs, support for Divx, DVD+/-R. I think the photos turned out pretty well. Too bad it crashed so many times even when played with original DVDs. It would either skip a track or often stay in freeze mode forever. The only way out was to turn it off and on again, which took 2-3 annoying minutes. Luckily I received it locally so I could return it. I placed an order for an Oppo 981 through Projector People (Revain takes 1 month to restock!). This little gadget has received many star ratings from Revain, so hopefully it will be as good as advertised!
