I have a 1999 GMC Sierra pickup and I think the tire shop flipped the lift upside down when changing the spare tire and blocked it so I couldn't lower the spare tire anymore so I bought this one to replace it. The 1999 models only had a cable drum like this one and didn't have the added mechanical hook securing of later GM trucks that rust and get stuck. I put two ratchet straps around the spare wheel and over the crossbars on the chassis frame to hold the spare wheel while I cut the spring on the old broken winch with a pneumatic wheel cutter to free the wheel. I then placed a jack under the tire, loosened the ratchet straps, and lowered the tire to the ground with the jack. A piece of cake. The new replacement Dorman lift fitted perfectly and the only issue I had was the spare tire still moved a little when the lift was all the way up. However, after a few days of truck driving, the spare wheel seems to have found its comfort zone, in which it is no longer moved as much. You will need to remove a small piece of plastic from your old lift holding the guide tube in place, but this is very easy. I only gave it four stars because the tire wasn't pressed onto the frame as tightly as I'd like, but other than that it's a quality replacement part.
