They look like normal children's toys until you pick them up. In fact, they are of very high quality. The plastic is very durable, the electronics are modern. They are great for kids to play outside and can even be used to help parents keep an eye on the kids while they are playing. Communication is very clear and not static like old walkie-talkies of the past. The range is reasonable but needs to be tested in your area due to some obstacles such as buildings that can reduce the range as with any radio. Communication on sight is very good. There are 9 channels to choose from if someone else in your area is using one of the channels. The channel can also be locked to prevent children from accidentally changing channels while playing. It also has a call notification to make it easier to get other people's attention when you want to chat with them. You need to press the power button for about 3 seconds to turn on/off the device. Comes with a Philips mini screwdriver for the battery compartment to keep the batteries from falling out if the device is dropped. Requires 3 AAA batteries. Also comes with a belt clip that is easy to remove, as well as a quick release strap that can be worn around the neck.
