I use them in the fireplace so I need a remote control. The husband couldn't tell if they were real or fake. I didn't remove any of the plastic covers so they don't get dirty and you don't even realize they're still there. I had to remove the covers on the tops to get the candles to flicker normally. They're pretty good for the price and I love the look of the candles because we can't make a fire due to childhood allergies. I can buy a third set. They are off-white - not white or ivory. I like that there is a candle mode versus a bright mode on the remote as well as timed delays for auto shut off. Highly recommended. I didn't want to spend money on Luminara candles because of the quantity needed. They seem almost as good and a lot cheaper.
