Review on Tovatec Aluminum Thunderbolt Pass Through Charging by James Yarbrough

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Stylish, compact and functional, the hub performs exactly as promised.

This compact port works well and looks good. The Tovatec Hub isn't machined precisely enough to fit your MacBook Pro perfectly (unlike the image shows millimeters of daylight), but it's pretty close. There is very little flexibility. USB-C connections could be made without worrying about taking it out of the MacBook. I was more cautious with the old USBs for fear of unplugging the Tovatec hub instead of unplugging the USB. Keep in mind that while the hub has two USB-C ports, only one is good for powering on. You can only charge from one source at a time, of course, but it's annoying to be plugged in for an hour and realize you haven't charged. A small point of criticism. The hub did not overheat while charging. I didn't do a synced transfer, but I did transfer about 32 gigabytes from a USB3.0 drive to my internal hard drive and it can't have taken more than ten minutes, if that. It says on the tin that it supports 5Gb/s transfer over USB3.0 but that's a lie, a damn lie and data transfer statistics. However, this hub should not be the bottleneck. This hub adapter is elegant, compact and functional. Recommended.

Pros
  • Looking forward to it
Cons
  • Sad hardware
