Before purchasing, I was very skeptical that a non-powered docking station could handle the load with all USB adapters, a large 27-inch monitor and a wireless monitor. (i.e. 3 monitors with one laptop). I was right. Still a cool device that I got working after a configuration change. In any case, HDMI must be connected to the laptop. I also had to use 3 other USB ports on my laptop to unplug the wireless keyboard and mouse as they stuttered or wouldn't work. Also, this USB light ring that only requires USB power had to be attached to the laptop as is will not work at all on the dock - flashed and then went off. So I suspect this dock is no different than 40 other similar Thunderbolt-powered multiport docks in terms of the limitations of not having an external power supply and Thunderbolt power from your laptop. So if you have some extra USB and HDMI ports on your laptop, you probably need to hang up a separate USB-only dock, and maybe HDMI can handle the load of 3 monitors (big monitor, small portable monitor and laptop) cope screen), then everything is fine. By the way, my laptop is a new generation Dell Latitude 5420 with Thunderbolt 4. Happy participation, everyone!
