Good signal gain - network antennas

I purchased this for my MoFi 4500 through AT&T service. I had a decent signal with the internal antennas that came with MoFi, but I wanted more speed for the modem/router. Everything I read said that a better signal would help with that. . . they are true I used this outdoor antenna on my house and it rises about 18 inches above the roof. The face is actually pointing in a different direction than I thought to get a better signal and indeed the tall, dense cedar is only 30 feet away and may be preventing me from getting full lanes. With internal antennas I only got about 3 bands. and signal -112dBm. After sitting on the roof with my laptop and logging into the router (MoFi has a very good beacon screen that updates fairly quickly) I was able to get 4 bars most of the time. DON'T JUST LET THE BANDS show your signal, you need to look at dbm! Even if I don't get 4 signal bars, I still get -93 to -97 dBm! (-93 equals 4 divisions and -94 equals 3 divisions on MoFi). That means I get 15 to 19 dBm gain! I get download speeds of 50 to 65 Mbps! Very pretty! I think if it wasn't for cedar I could easily get 5 bars. I could buy longer cables and go to the other end of the house, but why? Other cables cost $100 (or more), and crawling around in the attic is no fun at all. I am satisfied and recommend this antenna.

Pros
  • High marks for tester support and durability
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
