Review on Universal EZback Earring Backs Silicone by Barbara Simmons

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Ideal for sensitive ears, but overpriced

I have very sensitive skin so I have to use gold studs and earrings. It's very good but too expensive for what you get so I'm deducting a star. In fact, these are friction butterfly backs completely encased in silicone. One feature I haven't seen in similar pieces is that the ear stud itself is inserted at the end. So if the plug itself isn't too long, this should prevent the plugs from piercing your skin when you sleep. I bought both the yellow and white gold in the large size and a pair in the medium in yellow gold. To be honest there isn't much gold out there and you can't see it anyway because of the silicone so I wouldn't try to match the colors to your earrings. I liked the large size best as it is the same size as most "hypoallergenic" bullet types (plastic discs over base metal). The medium was fine but they don't seem to work to stabilize heavier earrings. I can't even imagine how tiny the "small" size must be! They seem to hold studs well and I have a feeling they will also hold their shape thanks to the silicone. Over the years I have tried various plastic and rubber heel counters as stabilizers. Most soft will stretch over time. The ones with the hard plastic discs certainly didn't stretch, but the ones with the bullets made my skin react. If you have sensitive ears like mine, this is the best option I've seen for protecting your skin and stabilizing your earrings. . NOTE: I'll take her word for it, this is 14k gold. You should, because the earring itself is enclosed at the back. They come packaged very cheaply so I'm hoping they are solid 14k gold as they claim. So far no skin reactions have occurred.

Pros
  • Nickel free; Hypoallergenic; High Quality Soft Silicone; no latex; Should not irritate skin
