I mounted a basket on a tire and the tire, basket and contents didn't look or feel like they would stay in place all the time. It supports the tire, basket, 60-inch Hi-Lift jack and tailgate, not the tailgate that does the hard work. One of the main reasons I got this is because the cart I have is exactly the same as this one. Without the basket installed, the new LT285/70-17 spare worked fine. With the basket mounted, no (it barely held the stock tire anyway) and I had to add an extension. Even with the extra arm, it barely vibrates when I close the tailgate. The only issue I had with the installation was installing washers and nuts on the back of the studs when installing the rod holder Weld nuts would make assembly difficult. easier to touch, but that would increase cost and make adjustment impossible. The instructions were easy to understand and well illustrated. I wish all Jeep accessories had instructions like this. Just make sure you don't skip a single step and you'll be fine. If you decide to use a 3rd traffic light extension, you may need longer cables. I don't need it, but the standard cable was barely enough for a brake light without an extension. Your mileage may vary but I would buy it again. If I had another Wrangler.
