If you tinker with it, you can get it working yourself, but it's not something you can really just leave alone while doing something else. So unlike a mop and many other things, you really want to lean it against a chair or whatever when you're walking. Otherwise it's ok for what it is. Also, I had to put tape (Teflon, whatever it is) on the bottom threads of the "shovel" handle to line it up so the broomstick would snap onto the shovel handle. Otherwise you'll have to leave it a little loose, which isn't a good idea. Maybe some sewing thread would help.
