My experience with Merrell has always been good. I needed summer sandals for my 6 year old and after searching I settled on the Merrell H20 Hiker. I bought Merrell suede booties when my son was younger and had a lot of experience with them. They always seemed to take beatings, mud, snow and ice; However, they never fell apart and at the same time looked decent. I love that they come in plus sizes because my son has wide feet for such a small person. So I bought them with the same high hopes. So far I'm not disappointed. I asked my son to try on a few other shoes of this type but I didn't like how his pinky toe looked like it could slip out and get caught on something and hurt himself. The holes around my fingers were too open for me and walking around at summer camp seemed like a recipe for disaster. These Merrell shoes all have toes in the toe box but have holes to allow the feet to breathe. My son can easily put them on and take them off and they are easy to wash and clean. Plus, for less than $30, my wallet was happy! I caution that your child should only wear them for a few hours before you wear them all day to break in and get used to them. The inner lining of the upper is similar to neoprene but still causes blisters. You can wear socks, but that wouldn't make sense.
