Size XL fits my 9 year old son.
Size XL is perfect for my 4'8" (4'8") son. We bought it for a trip and haven't tested it in the rain yet. However, I did a test with a cup of water and it appears to be waterproof. Nice material that doesn't get too hot - doesn't feel like plastic. Several buttons under the chin to protect the neck from water. I will buy a second one for my other son. I would have liked a large sewn on pocket so we didn't have to keep up with a storage bag.
