Review on HP EliteBook 840 Bluetooth Refurbished by Alex Solano

Great value for a casual laptop

After years of using Chromebooks mostly, I'm increasingly looking for a better laptop. But I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it since I use my work approved machine the most. I hesitated for a long time before ordering because of the many negative reviews. But I'm glad I made the purchase. As with every restoration, I expected the typical signs of wear and tear, although I received a perfectly usable device. Aside from a few minor scuffs on the outside of the case (the silver leather was starting to peel off at one corner so I peeled it off and figured it was unnecessary anyway; there were only light scratches on the lid!), the screen, the keyboard and trackpad were in perfect working order, and the battery holds a charge for at least 8 hours. As some point out, the maximum screen resolution isn't "Full HD," but according to HP's website, it never was. It should also not have a backlit keyboard. These are listing errors. I have found that the 8GB of memory and Intel chip make this machine very capable of running Adobe Illustrator and some of the Steam games that I have installed. In addition, it is very thin and light. I immediately installed several Windows updates and HP updates. Please note that the processor on this computer makes it unusable for Windows 11. This is not a problem for me. I can't get the fingerprint reader to work either, but I think that's because the feature is intended for "corporate" situations like "card readers". and the unit you will receive. I am very happy with mine having made all the necessary upgrades and I expect it to last a long time.

Pros
  • Comfortable
Cons
  • Mostly OK, but...
