I love this suribachi set and have used it more than I thought possible! It measures about 5 inches in diameter, making it useful for smaller jobs. I've used it to grind spices, grind rock salt, but mainly to make salad dressing, which makes it great for a salad for one or two. or two whole cloves of garlic in the bowl and then swirl the wooden pestle in the bowl while continuing to press the garlic against the ribbed interior. Season with salt, pepper and drizzle with olive oil and continue to stir the mixture with the pestle. Within minutes you'll have a creamy, smooth base for your acid (lemon juice, vinegar, etc.). It's a really great tool - and easier to clean than a food processor. If you tend to make large batches or grind more spices, this can be a bit small, but I find it perfect for single dishes or dressing batches.
