I was only able to create a very slight vacuum in the air space inside the cooler before I had to break the seal and let some more air into the cooler, but to do this I pumped air through 26 times and the liquid remained blue. I don't know how well this can work for thermally induced intermittent leaks, but I'm sure they exist. Once the test was negative, for general purposes only, bring the device NEAR BUT NOT INSIDE THE EXHAUST PIPE AND TOUCH THE EXHAUST PIPE and pump some air through it. The liquid quickly turns a light green hue. Pump in a little more air and in a gasoline engine the liquid will quickly turn yellow. This device lets me know if I'm damaging a very long, expensive rope before I go too far and waste time and money on a problem I may not need or want to deal with.
