1999 Pathfinder had tail lights on the trailer but no brake lights or direction indicators. It took me 3 months of chasing cables to find out the box could be bad. Found this plugin on Amazon. The order came quickly. When I finally got around to installing it, I was done in 20 minutes. Worked like a charm and my lights were fully functional. advice from me. Boxes mounted from the outside under the body can corrode over time. I managed to hide the whole system in the trunk lining. When I need to tow, I plug the connector into the trailer through the underside of the tailgate. It doesn't damage the wires when I close the gate, but I'm sure it can with heavy use. So everything stays in and dries out, which extends the lifespan.
