800w Pond Safety

The 800w version of this heater that I use in my pond has many advantages. It couldn't be easier to use, the external digital thermometer is accurate and the heat pipe design makes it safe for pond residents while reducing the chance of accidental breakage. The cable is pleasantly long and the externally illuminated control panel is very nice. After two cold nights, this device did the job of keeping my pond at a minimum safe temperature of 69F. My setup is a 280 gallon pond in a greenhouse. There is a 500W heater in the tertiary section of the filter, set at the desired temperature of 72°F, while an 800W heater is in the pond itself and set at 20°C as a safe temperature. The biggest complaint I have read about the heater is that when it fails there is dead product, either from hypothermia or fried to death. Take a tip from someone who's been interested in tropical fish longer than most of you have been alive; Never rely on a heater! This is the total power heating the tank, not the power of an individual heater; Divide the required power between two heaters with a small overlap between them. This saves valuable stocks in your aquarium; Why pay the price and trust a great heater? The way I recommend you set it up ensures that the heater alone cannot overheat the tank and that some heat is always supplied to the tank. For clarification. In a covered pool I usually set both heaters to the same temperature. In my case, the pumps, fans, and heaters share a 20W circuit, so I set one heater to the desired temperature and the other a few degrees lower to reduce average power consumption.
