Review on SainSmart 1.75mm Carbon Fiber Filament 3D Printer: Optimized for SEO by Tony Reid

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best carbon fiber yarn for the money. Incredibly strong and durable.

Excellent building material. I have experience with Markforged Onyx and this is kind of a budget version of this stuff. I haven't used NylonX so I don't know how it compares. It may seem that the filament cut is a bit larger on this filament and because of this the filament diameter is a bit uneven and inconsistent, but for me it still prints pretty smooth. I bleed a bit with a 0.6mm nozzle so I would recommend 0.4 or 0.5 instead and maybe increase the retract speed and distance a little. But until you choose other settings, the adhesion of the layers will be amazing. The carbon fiber also adds rigidity to the flexible nylon base. Thin walls will flex a bit, but anything thicker than 4mm is very stiff. I will also say that you need to be careful with this material. Grinding creates very fine dust particles that are dangerous to inhale. Therefore, use a respirator and sand this material outdoors. It's also inconvenient to handle finished parts, as the material is a bit irritating (almost like raw fiberglass) and itchy on your hands. That being said, the best way to finish the parts printed with this material is to use a primer/filler to get a smooth finish rather than sanding the print. Then fix the material with some top coat. I've used Plasti-Dip with pretty good results.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
