My original Green Killing Machine still works, thanks in part to the ability to replace UV lamps keep my new one" Greenhouse" aquarium really up and running. This new aquarium was designed to grow underwater plants to replenish the plant population in a 36 gallon aquarium. From time to time the tank starts to "fog up" and the original GKM9w, which runs for several days, cleans up. polished waters that we (and Pisces) appreciate. These UV machines are not meant to be run all the time like your filters or impellers are. Thus they will serve you in irregular service for many years. I think I got my first one about 5 or 6 years ago. What makes this new generation of eco-friendly machines better is the addition of an indicator light. With the old ones you had to remove the pump section and could barely see the glow from the internal UV lamp to make sure it was working. With the indicator light you can see the status of the lamp at a glance, which was not the case with the originals. Highly recommended.
