I've read some good reviews of the P220 mic and only found a few bad ones after ordering (of course). Complaints included uneven, harsh response from the upper mids to the high frequencies, as well as excessive background noise. I have to agree I had a hard time processing this with a 3 section parametric EQ and looking at some independent response graphs I can see why: a few resonant spikes, more than what the factory graphs showed. For newcomers, it's difficult to round off more peaks than you have EQ bands: compresses the frequencies you want to keep. Compare this to the AT2035 which was similar but more controllable with the EQ and the Rode NT-1 (not the "1a" version). The NT-1 was much easier to set up (nearly a single rounded boost in the top end) and picked up much less background noise. I left the AT2035 behind when ambient noise is the goal, but the NT-1 is much easier to work with when it focuses on what's in front. More than the published polar models suggest. Maybe I have some weird ducks? Came back easily thanks to the Revain policy!
