Review on New Balance Mens Recovery Running Men's Shoes for Athletic by Jim Young

XW width is not very wide

For those in a hurry, this shoe is listed as XW but only 2E wide. Don't expect to get 3E or 4E shoes. Upper too tight for 3E/4E foot. I would compare it to Ace bandages wrapped around the foot or strong compression stockings. Not quite what you want from a "Recovery" shoe. Your shoes are XW width. They take a medium wide sole that is clearly too thin and go for a very wide upper which causes serious fit issues and makes the shoe look ugly due to the bun effect. Compared to other brands of 4E shoes, NB soles are always thinner. I discovered all of this when I ordered an NB Coast V3 on Prime Day, thinking I had a factory defect because they were so shockingly thin. My feet were constantly sticking out from under the edge of my shoe soles, my big toe dangling in the air. I have since learned that this is very conscious. I've seen this type of build on at least a dozen NB shoes. And they're all budget notebooks that come in a solid red box with white logos and text. What does that have to do with these shoes? The wide models of these shoes are listed as XW (extra wide) in the size menu, but according to the packaging and tags, they are actually only 2E wide. 1E and 2E are wide, 3E and 4E are very wide. I compare these shoes to other pairs I have. The sole is wider than other Red Box NB 4E shoes I own. The sole is actually as wide as my Skechers and Nike 4E shoes. The upper is much smaller and narrower than any of my 4E shoes, which is to be expected from a 2E or smaller upper. -Price of size 4E top (other shoes NB). Why do they put 4E uppers on midsoles in their budget shoe lines? After being convinced of this, I called NB to find out why this was happening. I've been told that if I want to make sure the soles are true 4E. buy more expensive pairs. Coincidentally, around the same time, a family member bought some of their most expensive boots, a 1540v2 in 4E width, and they actually had a true 4E width sole. So these shoes are not XW, just 2E. The upper is too narrow for the XW foot. And if you want a NB that really fits your foot width, be prepared to shell out around $120 for a pair, or you can pick up Skechers and Nikes for around half that amount or even less if you shop around .
