They offer more clamping force but I'd really like to see them return to the normal grip design at the end of the tool. This hatched design absolutely sucks and you need extra grip strength to hold it all. They're also awkward to use, with one handle opening at a steep angle, which isn't a big deal and frankly came in handy in some situations.
