not moving in? Soak in hot water + vinegar

I have tried several sets of these filters. They all had the same problem: they wouldn't let water out past the part of the wick that went into the basin. It's really annoying as the original filters worked really well. Submerge the new kit in HOT water + vinegar (2 gallons of water, a few tablespoons of white vinegar) and let sit for 20 minutes. Installed as usual, making sure the filters are flush with the sides of the unit to allow air to flow through (not around) them. Seems to work MUCH better! The water has risen higher, no "new filter" smell, and I drink a full 2 gallons of water every 12-14 hours. I don't know why it helps. Perhaps a combination of HOT water + vinegar partially removes plaque? According to the box insert, the microbial preservatives are cellulose (9004-34-6) and zinc pyrithione (13463-41-7). Properties (also used by 3M in household sponges). None of the above should prevent the wicks from absorbing water, so I think hot water/vinegar will "soften" the fibers or something. Whatever he does seems to make a big difference. My humidifier is working again! :)
