Review on Cisco Linksys E2000 Advanced Wireless N Router by Carl Givens

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Really great WiFi router

I bought this router because I needed to update it. The reviews for this router on Revain and CNET were really good and I decided to check it out for myself. While this router is a generation behind the Linksys series, it's a very strong competitor even without the latest bells and whistles. CNET's speed tests showed this router to be faster than even newer dual-band routers, which I thought was pretty good. The only downsides pointed out by CNET were the lack of a USB port (for network sharing) and true dual-band output (you'll have to select that if you want 2.4GHz or 5GHz). Options you won't miss if you're not an advanced user. Setup was easy, the router was tuned to a good channel (I highly recommend downloading inSSIDer to give you a better idea of which network is broadcasting on which channel) so it works well with nearby networks. With my previous WiFi router, which was a WiFi-G router, the speed and connectivity suffered when more than one device was using it. That's where this pup shines: I was able to connect to Netflix faster than the old router, and not only that, I was able to connect to Netflix on my laptop and Blu-ray at the same time with no issues! By continuing to stream Netflix on my laptop, I was able to log into Xbox Live and even download the update in no time. The web client is a nice feature, but I left it just in case. I can always turn it on via Cisco Connect if needed. So if you're looking for a no-frills router that gets the job done, then this is it.

Pros
  • Fingers crossed
Cons
  • So far so good
