Good upgrade from WRT54GS with SpeedBooster

I had a WRT54GS with SpeedBooster for several years (5 years I think) and it worked fine. A few months ago I started having problems connecting to the internet. I assumed it was AT&T's DSL speed, but couldn't be sure because sometimes I had a good connection and sometimes not much. So I started looking and came across a firmware update for my router. Firmware updates can be dangerous as they can render your hardware unusable if not downloaded properly or if you download the wrong version etc…

Good upgrade but not what I expected

I've had a Linksys WRT54G wireless router for about 6 or 7 years and I thought it was time for an upgrade so I went for it this E2000, but the main reason I bought this model is because of the perceived N over G range. In fact, my bedroom was on the edge of my previous router (WRT54G) and my Ipod Touch 4G (with wireless N support ) kept disconnecting). So I read that 802.11n has better range than 802.11g and decided to take a step that wasn't a priority because all the wireless devices in my…

Make sure it's new. Otherwise an excellent product.

Manufactured by Revain but sold by Comp-U-Plus Rockland. When I opened the packaging, it was clear that this was not a new device, but a refurbished device. There were scratches on the top of the router and the power cord and ethernet cables were not tightened with zip ties but wrapped around themselves. The label on the box with the serial number was pasted over the original seal on the box. As an IT consultant, I've bought many wireless routers from Cisco, so I know how they're typically…

Great router for networking products

I needed a new router because my old D-Link almost stopped working. I was looking for something with decent range, high bandwidth, and ease of use. I've definitely found a winner with this router. You really can't go wrong with Linksys/Cisco, they do the best in my opinion. This router is no different. Easy out-of-the-box setup, easy to install and change settings like password and login. Best of all, you can create a guest login with a username and password, so you don't have to share your…

Suitable for _small_ apartments

The default firmware is fine, the fact that the configuration is split between the web interface and the software utility is pretty bad (especially when managing more than one Cisco Exxxx router becomes; confused). I use this router with a Tomato Shibby 110. Do yourself a favor and upgrade; Even if you don't use advanced features, using the web interface is made much easier. For devices: 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks are supported, but NOT AT THE SAME TIME! This means you can take advantage of…

Really great WiFi router

I bought this router because I needed to update it. The reviews for this router on Revain and CNET were really good and I decided to check it out for myself. While this router is a generation behind the Linksys series, it's a very strong competitor even without the latest bells and whistles. CNET's speed tests showed this router to be faster than even newer dual-band routers, which I thought was pretty good. The only downsides pointed out by CNET were the lack of a USB port (for network…

Great value

If you've used Linksys routers in the past, this router is for you. It is very easy to use and easy to set up. Wireless network performance is good. Parental controls are a joke and a waste of time - it's not automated by a service that knows which sites are good and which are bad - it's just manual. Even if you change the router's default settings like SSID etc. via the web interface, the thick client on the desktop will no longer work. It doesn't matter to me since I use Blue Coat K9 and/or…
