This is a very strong ladder that is easy to install. The way the brackets are made and attached to the ladder makes it easy to install the assembly tools. I used 1/4" stainless steel screws, locknuts and washers to install it through a 1-3/4" transom and a 1/4" aluminum base plate (16" x 12"). I would recommend the support plate as most of the load is on one area of the transom due to the single attachment point, but again I like to overdo the technical stuff. The ladder can be pulled out and folded up easily and safely. There is a strap to hold the ladder in a telescoping position. and rubber holders that keep the ladder upright. I rarely write reviews on items but I think this ladder deserves a great review. People over 250 pounds can climb into the boat far Highly recommended.
