I put off buying a new filter because the air purifier has been running at low speed for over a year. I didn't think it filtered much. One day I took out my old one and vacuumed it to remove dust from the outside and prolong its life. When the fires ravaged California this summer, I decided to buy a new filter. I'm glad I did. I noticed that the new filter was much cleaner and lighter than my old one. I think there were a lot of solid particles in the filter. The new one works great and I will definitely change it more often from now on. I bought it for a specific purpose, so I might as well use it properly to get the benefit out of it.
