I estimate that around 75% of these straws draw air in the fold area. Usually, straightening the straw will solve the problem, but not necessarily. However, using a straight straw will create a better vacuum. I'm sure the big problem is that they are very thin and even thinner at the bend. This package costs about 50 cents if so because of constant disappointments. It takes strong sucking and then the ability to burp a lot to expel all of the swallowed air. Good luck with it!
