Review on πŸ“· Fujifilm FinePix F600EXR 16 MP Digital Camera: Enhanced Performance, CMOS Sensor, 15x Optical Zoom (Black) by Grace Brown

Good zoom, lots of features but noisy images (even in RAW)

Why I bought this product: Together with an underwater box, for sea scenes and fish in RAW format. nowadays waterproof cameras that record in RAW format. As a result, you're stuck with what a JPG can do. The noise increases naturally in low light conditions, e.g. B. when there is debris in the harness or you dive deeper than a meter: I didn't want to add JPG compression artifacts. I love enlarging my photos and looking at the details. I bought the F600EXR as a discontinued item after reading good reviews. Combined with the case, it was cheaper than some of the newer waterproof cameras. There are newer versions of this product with even more features and better zoom, but I wasn't looking for the latest and greatest, just good, sharp images in a small form factor. I also checked if the Fuji RAW format is supported by later versions of Photoshop. That. If this is not the case, Adobe offers a converter, a DNG engine that works quite well. So I was pretty happy with my purchase until I started shooting in the suggested modes: manual, P, EXR (auto). focus) and the like. There was noticeable noise in each image. It has to be the sensor: lots of megapixels on a tiny sensor isn't a good combination. I don't get angry if it seems too good to be true. You know the rest. But I would gladly pay a hundred euros more for a larger sensor. What's the point of shooting in RAW if you can't get a clean shot? I don't blame the camera: it's a very worthy contender in its class. You can't beat the combination of price and features, and the form factor is very good. It's just not the camera I needed.
