You need to get the filler rod so it can be installed in the gap and then fill it with sealant. Styrofoam is easy to cut and place in the gap. Although I have found that the larger 1/4" diameter works best. Otherwise it will be difficult to squeeze it enough to get in the gap. All in all a very useful product and the sealing in the expansion joints looks good .
