I had an old M.2 SATA SSD that I removed from my laptop. It was 180GB, which was too small for the main drive. I decided to buy this case to use as a USB drive. Installation took about a minute. Tools are not required. I plugged it in, formatted it, and that's how I got a 180GB USB drive. It's in a nice little form factor that's not much larger than the drive itself. There aren't any instructions other than what you see on the back of the box. My drive was the full length of the case, but if you have a shorter SSD you can use the included clamps to hold it in place. As the description says, this is for M.2 SATA SSDs only, so make sure you know what you have. . Copying a 7GB file to the drive took about 42 seconds, but speed is affected by the drive as much as the case. My SSD wasn't a high-end drive. I look forward to using this drive to back up large files. So far I'm very happy with the drive.
