Review on Jack Wolfskin Illusion Spacious Vestibule by Chris Pettway

Thumbs up in the Alaskan wilderness!

A few caveats: I bought this on another clearance site for about half the price of here. Also, I usually like to take some time before testing something to make sure it will last. This review is based on an 8 day hike/hunt on a very remote lake in Southwest Alaska. However, I liked how this tent handled the journey. We had three days in a tent because of bad weather (30-40 mph wind and heavy rain) and he mastered everything with aplomb. I used it for my hunting buddy and for me and our gear. I'm pretty average (5'9/just over 200) and he's a big guy (6'1/275). It accommodated us and our cribs (Alps Ready Lites) perfectly with little interior space. The lobby is huge and houses all of our gear. We stayed in a less than ideal location and rain/water was not a problem at all. It seems durable and blows easily with the wind. My only future concern will be how long the window plastic will last, although one of the reasons I bought it was for the windows; the time will show. I love the fly, I love the lobby, I love the weight of the fabric, and I love lots and lots of guys. I also like how it looks. All in all, the first trip, this tent was a rock star. I look forward to new trips in the future.

Pros
  • Sleek design
Cons
  • Lots of stuff
