Surprised! to diagnostic, test and measurement tools

This device has very limited value for money. I've used several different Bluetooth OBDII devices ranging from $25-$45 that offer significantly more features. I tried it on 3 different cars and it didn't work properly on any of the 3. Problem with one of the three cars I tested it on. One of the cars I've tried it on is a 1998 Ford Van and it's definitely OBDII, but it reads it as OBDI instead. It also had virtually no PIDs available. I used a $25 OBDII bluetooth on this 1998 van and it worked great and had 5x more PID than this Autel. A specific PID I'm looking for is Transmission Temp and Autel didn't have transmission information available. I know the car has transmit data because I used cheap Bluetooth to read the transmit data. The third car was a 2003 Toyota. Autel didn't recognize the car and I had to manually enter the year, make, model and engine type. Once entered, the device didn't display the correct data and didn't seem to provide much data at all. Maybe I received a faulty device? Needless to say I will be sending it back and buying another cheap Bluetooth device that will actually read all available information about the vehicle.

Pros
  • Best in its niche
Cons
  • Periodicity
