Need a spacer good for me

I bought this short stem to replace the long one on my wife’s road bike to give her a comfortable reach. It does the job nicely. I had to buy spacers because this one is lower than the original. Also the bolts for the plates do not look that strong. I ended up using those on the original stem instead.

This is the 3rd Wake Stem that I have purchased.Excellent bang for the buck!

Cons

The Wake 31.8mm Short Mountain Bike Stem may require frequent maintenance and cleaning to avoid damage and wear

Kinda works, can''t get it tight enough on the forks, so it moves back and forth. Not 100% safe, so I can''t use it. Wasted 20 bucks, basically. The metal is also a bit soft so I''m afraid I''ll break it with too much tightening. Color me disappointed.
