Review on ZEROPLAY Miter Bars MICROJIG Double by Mitch Emmel

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Poor engineering and quality control. NOT exactly for ShopSmith. Probably for nobody.

I really wanted to love her. As a Shopsmith owner, my choices are a bit limited. Unfortunately, a great idea and a great design fall apart due to poor design and quality control. Even though they say they are made specifically for Shopsmith, stop blocks will never work. I think I can save myself the bevels if I try hard enough. Note. In the photos they are fresh out of the box - never installed or used. Problem #1: MICROJIG didn't leave enough plastic between the tapered portion of the rod and the brass insert. As a result, both bars broke when the inserts were pushed into the bar. See Photo #1. Problem #2: MICROJIG left a significant amount of mold flash on the edges of the rods. With wider grooves, this may not be an immediate problem, but my grooves are only .735 inches (within the stated limits). The size of the bars I received was 0.747-0.752 inches. Before assembly, they didn't even penetrate the corner slots. If your table has wider slots, these straps will likely wear out quickly and require the corner bars to be adjusted several times to ensure a proper fit. Calibration" requires the user to install the stop blocks included in the kit. Unfortunately, the units supplied require a tenon in the corner slots (T-slots). Shopsmith doesn't have T-slots. You can work around this, but that would be a far cry from a "one-touch" process. EDIT: I will be returning them. It will take more work to create these functions than to create your own. Since stop blocks are one-time use, I would say almost $30 for two poorly made ones Paying for pieces of plastic with broken inserts that came from Harbor Freight and should cost a penny. Pricing. I'm used to fixing brand new HF tools. :(
