Not a very reliable router option

I've seen some other reviews but thought maybe they were just unlucky and got a faulty router. I guess I'm unlucky too. Firstly I'd say believe the reviews that say the support from ASUS is bad - I'd call it world class bad except at least you get to talk to someone. Just don't expect much help if there's a problem, not something you didn't read about when setting it up. When I first got the router it powered up fine but didn't show up on my computer for me to set it up. I thought it was because I have multiple routers on my network. Called support to try and get help setting it up. After over an hour on the phone, the rep said he needed to upgrade me to the next level of support. After 10-15 minutes of waiting someone came and when I gave them the information I was told I had been put back in the regular queue and would have to wait for a call back. It's been about a week and still no call. However, after that call, I dragged my desktop into the basement where the router was plugged directly in, and I was able to get the router working. Now, about a week later, he died. Everything else in my network was disconnected, except for the DSL modem and this router, and when it didn't work, I phoned support again for about an hour. I was even asked after the router failed to reboot (it's completely locked up and won't even reboot) if I checked that the cable I was using works from my computer when connected directly to the DSL modem is. I send it back and get Netgear. Not sure why mine only lasted a week but I can add my voice to the other reviews that have had a similar experience. When it worked, the wifi signal was great and the user interface seems well thought out to me. Too bad the underlying hardware is the weak link, so nothing else matters.

Pros
  • Great for a small house
Cons
  • I don't actually like it, everything is fine
