I bought this mirror toy in addition to the one I already have. All my birds (3 zebra finches, 2 cockatiels) love to play with it, especially the little beads. I only let the birds play with them when they are out of their cages and have time to roam around as if the mirror falls out it can break or shatter and possibly cause injury. I also modified the mirror so that it doesn't have a pole, but I had to add something on the back to keep the mirror from falling out when cockatiels play with it. I installed it outside of one of the cages with the perch hanging underneath and that's how they interact with the toy. Maybe you could leave it to the finches as they don't have a beak to take it off like cockatiels or budgies, but other than that I don't consider it a cage toy. Also, in my humble opinion, birds should not be placed with mirrors above actual breathing companion birds. Birds can become very affectionate and aggressive (protective) towards their mirrors and will ignore you much more than if you had just made them friends. If you really want a safe mirror toy to stay with your bird when you're not around I would look for something a little more powerful.
