I had a HomePatrol 2 that worked great until static ruined the touchscreen. If you've ever had one, you know you can't do anything without a touchscreen. Uniden offered to swap out the screen for about $100 and a couple of weeks of waiting. So I ordered these and the software is very similar so the 'frustration factor' is not the same as for those who have never used the Sentinel software. It has pros and cons like any other digital scanner, but I think the more I use it and discover more possibilities, the more I like it. Unfortunately my local police station is encrypted, don't know why. But I still listen to Sheriffs, Fire/Ems and all the other events in my area. I understand that PD encrypts "tactical" channels, but normal daily activities should be available. My taxes went to these radios so as an amateur I should have access and would like to know in advance if there will be a car chase down my street. But they're all encrypted, so they're either hiding something or they don't want the public or the media to know that they might be in a dangerous situation that doesn't actually require encryption.
