Impressive Linksys router

I have a typical home network with a desktop computer (wired) and a laptop with wireless connection and a shared printer. I had to buy a new wireless router because I switched from DSL to cable. My previous router (made by Westel) was quite touchy, dropping the wireless connection from time to time and it felt like I had to reboot both PCs once or twice a day because it couldn't connect to the internet or the PCs failed to connect or both. I just received this Linksys a few days ago and it's pretty impressive. You can even put your computer to sleep, and when you return to it, it's usually still connected normally. I've never been able to do that with my newest router. When the connection to the Linksys router was lost (I put the laptop to sleep overnight) all I had to do was disable the connection and then re-enable it, which is much easier than restarting everything (10 seconds vs 5 minutes) . That didn't work with my Westel router. I'm deducting a star because it couldn't connect to the internet using the setup wizard that Linksys provided on their CD, and because the manual is in a PDF file. It asks for a password in the middle of the wizard and I wasn't sure what password is needed. What he wanted was the modem password. It comes with username and password admin; admin, so when you come to this question, don't enter the password - it's already filled in like this --> **** Just click the button to continue. Also, I had to type 192.168.1.1 in the Internet Explorer address. to switch to the manual setup procedure after the wizard failed to connect. Once in the Linksys config I looked around and found a button to update or refresh the address and once the address showed up it connected and everything was fine. I received version 5 of this model. You can tell which model it is if you turn the device over and see the WRT54GS v5 model next to it. I noticed on the Linksys website that this is a fairly new model, January 2006 I think so they may have been merged by now. The setup wizard asks what type of connection you have, but doesn't indicate that the cable is likely a PPOL connection. I believe the DHCP choice is for DSL, but you can call your ISP's tech support if you're unsure. ) Federal State. Setup aside, I'm quite happy with the purchase based on the stability, speed and range. I had no problem connecting to it from my deck outside. The nice thing about the setup is that it walks you through the steps of connecting cables with pictures etc. Pretty soon I'll be getting VOIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and connecting some phones to this router and I'll come back and let you know how it worked. I noticed that a previous reviewer said this router is great for VOIP because you can prioritize the physical ports and give the port connecting the phones the highest priority. It looks like this is exactly what I need. Someone looking to buy a used, somewhat unstable Westel router?
