Review on πŸ” Enhanced Resolution in FLIR Compact Thermal Imaging by Dee Parson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

WOW! Amazing/expensive toy

I recently bought this for use with NAS SERVERS to see which drives are hot and which areas aren't getting adequate cooling. I really love this thing, I was looking at the E4 model. For a few hundred dollars you can get higher resolution and automatic hot/cold detection. This camera comes into play a lot. I mean an EXTREMELY high quality case like a pelican case or something similar. The battery life of this camera is quite long (4 hours with high screen brightness and 5-6 hours with low brightness) and has a removable battery, so additional devices can be purchased for longer operation. Working with this camera for the first time was very easy and straightforward. It takes less than 5 seconds to turn on and in standby mode - just 2 seconds. It has a very simple button layout and it is very easy to wear gloves with it. This camera has multiple modes. It has a standard 640x480 color camera and a 120x90 thermal camera. I also looked at the Flir I series cameras which are expensive because of the thermal imaging but with the E5 the MSX technology makes a huge difference! Overlapping camera images make it much easier to see what's in front of you. As for the feel of the camera, I have to say that it is very comfortable to hold. The comfortable grip makes work a lot easier, especially when working for a long time. I considered buying this as a work tool but found myself playing with it more like a toy than a work tool. I walk around my house, look at all the energy-intensive appliances lying around and find the missing insulation in the walls. All in all, this is a great gadget! and worth the money! UPDATE: 10/08/2017 I've looked at a number of forums and said that no matter what version of camera you buy, everything inside is the same but is limited by the software. I was able to hack this camera with special software and get the full E8 specs from my E5. I bet it's not a guarantee and if you mess up the processes you could ruin the camera forever. Now all new cameras FLIR sells have a new software patch that prevents you from performing this hack. But it's still amazing to save a few thousand just by dialing a new code. lol, still a great buy and very reliable!
