I'm male and bought this to use during my second round of chemotherapy. During my last lap, I tended to have muscle fatigue and joint pain, which interfered with getting a good night's sleep. One of the best positions was lying on your side but leaning back slightly to relieve pressure on the hip joint. Attempting to fit regular cushions was difficult as one always shifted or compressed more than the others. Knowing this in advance, I looked for alternatives and came across this pillow. This pillow gives me constant support from my head and neck to my calves. It also helps to put your foot to the side like the lady in the picture is doing. I know it looks like an awkward pose for joint pain, but it works for me. My only suggestion is to offer this with a 100% cotton sleeve. The plush microfiber material doesn't breathe well, and another side effect of my chemotherapy regimen is that I constantly struggle to regulate my body temperature. My dog likes it too. Several times I had to send her to her own pillow. She seems happy with this option.
