Review on AVMATRIX HVS0402U Channel Streaming Switcher by Juan Axum

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Nice solution that works right away.

Good product. I bought because obs and my stream are too complicated and unreliable (wasted days on YT making scenes/macros that don't work when you need them/all sorts of workarounds needed for zoom). I bought in lieu of an item because after all they still rely on black magic software to get basic functionality from an item. Love the old school toggle slider and customization of the Avmatrix buttons. The instructions are a bit lacking, so it took me a while to figure out how to use the dsk/usk functions. The menu built into Multiview is easy to navigate. I just wish there was a button to use the Luma shortcut to quickly access images in another graphic instead of going to the menu. There are also no built-in motion graphics (except for transitions). I got around this by embedding all my important Luma graphics in a PowerPoint (or LibreOffice Impress) deck that I can easily scroll through, then using Menards' cheap HDMI splitter to connect my second monitor as a HDMI input so I can quickly overlay others in the lower third. There are probably many different solutions, but I'm not a graphic designer and I don't want to spend big bucks on software solutions. The fan may be too loud for some people, but it can be turned off. I wish it had XLR inputs, but I could still connect my vocal/stage mic through the audio mixer so it doesn't pick up background noise. On-screen video levels make it easy to monitor real-time audio. Finally, I don't think you can record directly to a USB hard drive. You can stream to a PC at the same time using USB-C and the HDMI program output, which is nice. All in all, a great entry-level switch if you want a solid hardware solution with easy-to-use buttons for live streaming, presentations, and tutorials. Use zip ties and mark connections with tape to keep everything neat and organized. Comparable Roland switch is 4 times more expensive! Funny little switch!

Pros
  • . MULTIVIEW The switcher has two HDMI outputs (PGM/Multiview). Both HDMI ports are AUX outputs that user can define as HDMI 1/HDMI 2/HDMI 3/HDMI 4/PGM/Clean PGM/PVW/Color Bar/Multiview outputs (see Part 6). By connecting the HDMI multiview output to an additional monitor, the user gets a multiview image. Multiview has PVW, PGM, HDMI 1, HDMI 2, HDMI 3, HDMI4 windows and status/menu pages. See picture below.
